Magic works "at a lag" on Earth Realm and therefore works best by setting things in motion and slowly building over time; arranging things small and slow to cause effects. Immediate dramatic change is almost impossible.

The opposite is so for magic in The Dreaming which works immediately and due to the chaotic nature of the environment loses coherencey fast when attempting slow manipulations making long term planned manipulations folly.
