   The Wolf

Somewhere in the back of your mind watching you there is always the 
glint. The flash of moonlight on the wet, sharp eyes of the quietly 
breathing beast. 

Steam rising. 

Somewhere in the dead of night there is always the growl. Long and 
from the throat, poised and violent. At the worst of times there is 
also the howl. Cutting through you like a sabre blade from nowhere; 
the rush of it, the surprise. The certainty of adrenaline. 

Threats of death, and further anxiety. 

The fear of being torn apart. 

And yet only a shadow. 

A wisp. 

Is the wolf even real? 

Is he here to frighten you? 

Or is he just here to usher you down the path?

Perhaps help you? 

Stalking you. 

Manipulating you. 

So you are more easily led astray.
