The Alliance of Birds
Introduction
When Eris and Dysnomia blockaded the trod from The Endless City to Earth Realm (a likely precursor to a power-seizing incursion) The Raven took the opportunity and radical action of making a pact with the exiled clans (the magpies) on Earth Realm - uniting them and placing them under the protection of The Host of The Raven, and by proxy the House of The Rat (and the Empire itself at the highest level) in exchange for their military services.
This would mean that any attempt to take Earth Realm for Eris would have to face not only The Host's Blackmetal but the massed clans and their hardened warriors and tricksters also. This changed the dynamic of any planned incursion dramatically. The result of this was that the forces of Eris removed themselves from any active blockade, and although they still technically hold the trod they are no longer aggressively monitoring or interfering with traffic to and from The Otherplace.
In effect, Eris is now surrounded; by the Queen of Rats and the City, and Alliance on Earthrealm. This does not mean war is not inevitable, it does mean that The Realm of Silence is once again looking more appealing than prolonged conflict for the High Queen of Chaos.
It was a masterful maneuver, as unexpected as it was brilliant, and one which certainly caught The White Witch off her guard. It is rumored that Dysnomia personally congratulated The Raven for outwitting her in an encounter in The Endless City sometime after the event. Rare hubris (albeit with an undertone of threat) from the Goblin Queen, and a significant modern victory for The Raven.
It should be noted that it was around this time that the Realm of Breath resurfaced, and many suspect The Alliance of Birds was a summoning factor in this reappearance... a realm of air and feathers for an age of birds and claws.
Description
The pact is simple; for all political purposes, The Clans are now part of The Host of The Raven and should be treated and expect the courtesies that entails. While The Raven does not have direct control over The Clans, they are expected to follow his lead in all things.
