The City of Hearts
Introduction
The City of Hearts is the capital city of the Wonderland Realm. It is governed by "The Queen of Hearts" (which is just another title for the Sidhe High Queen more commonly at this time known as The Queen of Rats) subsequently the City, and indeed Wonderland realm are under the dominion of The House of the Rat. It is unclear for how long this has been the case as Wonderland is a notoriously difficult realm to reach for even the most powerful of The Fae - add to this that the Queen of Hearts actively bars entrance to the Realm and City to all but her most loyal subjects.
It is believed that Lord Echo once ruled Wonderland but how long ago this may have been, how it changed hands, or if this is even true is a subject of some debate. No one is brave enough to ask Echo or the Queen. It is known that at some point before her apparent destruction The White Queen also ruled Wonderland, and The City of Hearts. It is widely accepted that before invading/arriving in The Endless City The City of Hearts was and had been the residence of The Queen of Rats for quite some time. It is also known that The Nothing failed to destroy or even gain access to Wonderland even after a number of attempts - it is a resilient realm, probably due to its location deep in The Far Umbra and the surreal nature of it's reality and therefore a perfect "Keep" for a Sidhe High Queen.
Description
The City is set in a sea of green well kept hedges which lead to many entrances in a maze-like fashion. In the distance, behind the city from the vantage point of the standard approach is a vast snow-capped mountain. Inside the city is a surreal experience, where nothing is stable and reality feels paper-thin. An idiosyncrasy of the realm is that all animals talk. Upon his first visit The Raven declared that Wonderland was "A very strange place and not one I care to make a habit of visiting".
Due to the restricted nature of access to the city relatively little is known. Historically it can be presumed that the City of Hearts is one of the places visited, or at least described, in the Earth Realm "Alice" books by Lewis Caroll. Although what he was doing there, and indeed how he got there are mysteries.
