The Concordian Barrier

Introduction

All of the surviving Dreaming Realms, or Fae Realms, and Earth Realm, are secured behind what is known as The Concordian Barrier.

Description

The Barrier was put in place by The God Emperor using magic unknown and was the promise he made to The Treaty which he assured them would win The War in The Dreaming. It was successful (the price was that the entity now known as The God Emperor would immediately become ruler of all within the Barrier). The Barrier serves the primary purpose of keeping The Nothing out.

It also serves a "secondary purpose" of reflecting spent magical energy back into the "bubble" behind the Barrier - practically, this means that magic is never lost just reused over and over again. It is the official line of the Empire that this side-effect was unknown and or an accident of the obscure magic involved. There are those who do not believe that statement to be true - indeed it is a widely held belief that this was part of the Emperor's plan all along.

Whatever the truth; this side-effect resulted in both The Age of Magic (or something close to it, albeit less understood and more chaotic as a result) in terms of the magical atmospherics) returning to Earth Realm, and a magical recharging of the remaining Dreaming the likes of which it had never seen. The Endless City could not have been formed so quickly without the energy provided by the reflections of The Barrier.
